JRC-IHCP

The Mission of the JRC-IHCP is to provide scientific support to the development and implementation of EU policies related to health and consumer protection. The IHCP carries out research to improve the understanding of potential health risks posed by chemicals, biocides, genetically modified organisms, contaminants released from food contact materials and consumer products. As a Research Institute, the JRC-IHCP contributes to the improvement of scientific knowledge on health care methods and consumer issues. As a European Institution, the JRC-IHCP participates, at an international level and in collaboration with Member States Authorities, in R&D and regulatory actions intended to improve consumer tutelage.

As a European Commission Service, the JRC-IHCP acts as an independent advisor for the implementation of risk assessment, monitoring and validation of procedures aimed to insure EU citizens of the use of health and consumer services or products. The Environmental Noise Monitoring Lab (ENML) of the Physical and Chemical Exposure Unit of JRC-IHCP provides support to the EU noise policy through: (a) the validation, harmonisation and standardisation of noise in the EU Member States; (b) the personal exposure to environmental noise and associated health risks. The Lab is currently partner of the EC funded HARMONOISE and IMAGINE projects.
