Technical University of Gdansk
The Technical University of Gdansk (TUG), is a university owned by the Polish Government. The Mechanical Faculty is one of the biggest departments of TUG (at about 300 employees). Automotive Group at the Mechanical Faculty has 10 researchers including one professor and 4 doctors of science. The main field of research activity in the Automotive Group is related to tyres, their construction and properties. Since 1978 the Group has been conducting tyre/road noise research programs including noise source identification, modelling and parameters studies. The laboratories of Automotive Group are well equipped for conducting tyre/road noise research. There are two specially designed test trailers (one of them is intended for testing of tyres with constant slip ranging from -15% to +15%) and two drum facilities equipped with replica road surfaces (replicating ISO reference road surface as well as surfaces proposed by GRB). Software developed in the group for designing "quiet" tyre tread patterns is used by two big tyre companies. There are simulation programs for tyre/road noise emission and propagation developed by the researchers from TUG. The Automotive Group of TUG is the biggest and most active research team dealing with tyre/road noise in the region of so called East Europe.
