END interim model for Railway Noise - Are you experienced?

[02 September 2004]

The Environmental Noise Directive recommends the Dutch RMR-1996 model as the interim model for railway noise. Before this prediction model can be used, some quite sophisticated measurements are necessary for categorising trains and tracks.

IMAGINE wants to get in touch with colleagues who are preparing for railway noise mapping outside the Netherlands, using the RMR-2002 procedures. According to a record from the EU, at least Belgium, Spain, Italy, Portugal and Greece will be using this RMR model (sometimes called SRM II). If you know colleagues who are carrying out measurements on national rolling stock as to prepare for RMR calculations, please inform us about them.

We want to learn about the experience they have with the measurement procedures (roughness measurement, separation methods, transfer functions). This will help IMAGINE WP6 to write guidelines for the harmonised railway model (from HARMONOISE), which requires quite similar procedures.
