The main research activity is the numerical simulation of sound propagation, with focus on environmental noise. There is a lot of experience with numerical modelling of sound propagation, more precisely with the finite-difference time-domain simulation technique (full wave-based), that has a wide range of applications (going from room acoustics to outdoor sound propagation). Noise mapping is another field of study, with special focus on dynamic noise mapping (traffic noise sources) and uncertainty (based on the fuzzy-approach). There is also research to better predict noise annoyance based on soft-computing techniques.

On a regular base, projects for the government are performed. Especially environmental impact studies of e.g. mobility plans.
