Budapest University of Technology and Economics

The Department of Telecommunications of Budapest University of Technology and Economics works in the framework of Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics.

Its three main areas are communication networks, sound and image processing technologies and applied informatics. Acoustics is tought and research is carried out by members of two laboratories of the Department: Audio Technologies Lab and Laboratory of Vibroacoustics.

The current research activities of the Vibroacoustics Lab, founded in 1999, are active noise control, experimental modal analyses, numerical modelling of vibrating structures and sound fields, modelling of vibration propagation in soil, prediction of re-radiated noise and environmental noise control. Since its establishment, the laboratory has participated in a number of national, bilateral and European projects. National projects included consultancy on the noise control of South Railway Bridge of Budapest, prediction of the effect of a new metro line and a number of consultancies in environmental noise and vibration control. Concluded European projects are TINO (on tire noise), and the thematic network SEANET. Currently running projects deal with noise from underground train traffic (CONVURT), sound engineering of aircraft (SEFA) and active noise reduction by means of smart materials (InMAR).
